WoW! Talk! #92: On Professions, Leveling, and New Races.
This week’s episode begins with Nick, Rei, and Eric talking about raiding, and a discussion of which raids were best and which were not. Nick asks Rei about which raids she didn’t like, but she deftly dodges the question. Nick mentions he has finally completed the Argus content, while Rei and Eric are finally up to Kil’jaeden in Tomb of Sargeras and have been running more mythic dungeons lately.
Yepx emailed in with comments about leveling and questions about professions. The gang discusses how professions could be improved, with Nick going so far as to suggest that smelting should be removed and skinning should be streamlined to be automatic when looting. Then they address the comments on leveling, with Rei mentioning a friend she is helping to learn healing in dungeons by tanking for her. Nick comments that heirloom experience should just be baked into the level requirements, and heirlooms should be removed since just about no one is starting the game from scratch without knowing any friends.
Alisaunder emails in also about leveling, and Nick responds by talking about how the concept of the expansion needs to be reconsidered. Rather than giving us five zones with several chapters of content to gorge through at launch, Blizzard should pace that out, and maybe even get rid of expansions entirely by raising the cost of the subscription. This leads to everyone realizing Nick just asked for a price increase without any real additional content and he fails to walk the idea back. Everyone agrees that Suramar was a good example of how max-level questing should be.
The gang then briefly discusses the changes to battle.net, with Appear Offline and Groups now being available. Rei is a much better person than Nick because she never needs to use Appear Offline.
A recent Blizzard posting for a murloc costume at Blizzcon was awkwardly worded and may be hinting that murlocs will be playable in the next expansion. The gang talks about how murlocs are a joke race but there is precedent for them to be a bit more serious. Nick also asks how everyone would feel if the Nightfallen became playable.
Also in the news, the Running of the Gnomes raised over $16,000 for charity this weekend (and Nick is bitter that his gnome couldn’t afford to fly), Ion and Lore did a Dev Q&A, the Krokul Flute will be account wide for fast travel on Argus, Mythicpl.us is a site that informs players what the current Mythic modifiers are, the Blizzcon in-game goodies were announced, Blizzard banned several players for scripting, and Christie Golden is now full time at Blizzard.
Also, Nick will be hosting Pod Before the Con, part of Con Before the Storm and World of Podcasts, on 10/30 at 9:00 pm E on twitch.tvconbeforestorm and on Alpha Geek Radio. Check it out!
