I was reading on Kotaku this morning and stumbled on this news post that was from the Call of Duty: Black Ops forum. There seems to be a post from someone on the PC development team posting under the user name “pcdev” stating the following:
We plan to open the game up for modding sometime post-launch. We do not know yet to what extent you will be able to mod the game. There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the modtools paradigm. We have looked at it close enough to see that it is non-trivial and we will have to pick it up again post-launch. Right now we are completely focused on finishing the game.
And, dev console: confirmed.
For PC players, this should be a rallying cry that Treyarch has not forgotten the PC gamer who likes their custom maps and mods. Add in the fact that it was confirmed earlier that the game WILL have dedicated servers, it’s surprising to see a multi-platform game keeping the PC aspects much like a proper PC game. A developer that hasn’t been choked to death by a greedy publisher AND listens to the feedback of its potential consumers?! It almost seems impossible nowadays and Treyarch wants to change that? I say, more power to them!
