Plants vs Zombies: Game of The Year Edition and Xbox 360 Version [Overview]

Almost a year ago, PopCap took the tower defense game and remixed it into something ingenious.  The epic battle of Plants vs Zombies was created and given to the PC; it quickly became a casual hit for those used to PopCap’s offerings.  Like many other PopCap games, the charm and simplicity is deceptive to how much fun the games can be.  The game has sold pretty well and began to attract the attention of the casual gamer market.  An iPhone and iPad version have been around for a few months now catching those who want a portable fix.  Around the summer of 2010, PopCap announced that a Xbox 360 version was underway as well as a Game of The Year Edition.  On August 10th, Steam delivered news on the Game of The Year version for PC’s.  The news mentioned the following upgrades:

20 New Achievements
SteamCloud Support
Zombitar Avatar Creation Tool
SteamPlay: Play the game on Mac or PC

The Xbox 360 version has also arrived as of today with a bonus copy of Peggle and Zuma on the disc.  The Xbox 360 version also has 2 modes not available to PC/Mac gamers: Co-Op and Versus mode.  Those features can be seen in this official PopCap Games trailer for the Xbox 360 version below:

There used to be an embeded media player here, but it doesn't work anymore. We blame the Tumbeasts.

The game is pretty basic as a tower defense game.  Set up your perimeter with certain plants that provide resources (sunlight), offensive, or defensive capabilities and get to the slaying of zombies.  As you progress through the games, you will earn plants to enhance your collection.  You will also get to meet your neighbor Crazy Dave who will offer you upgrades later on.

The Zombitar feature is pretty goofy and below is one I made of myself to share:

While the game is quite simple, it’s got a bit of substance to it.  The retail “Limited Edition” disc version comes with a Zombie figurine retailing for $19.99.  The digital PC version is available for $9.99 from Steam (which is the best price for it).  The Xbox 360 version is available for $19.99 with a copy of Peggle and Zuma on the disc for $19.99.  Think of it as a relaxing way to wind down the night after playing a good session of Left 4 Dead!  Check out the gallery below for more screenshots.  For more details, check out PopCap’s Games official page for Plants vs Zombies.
