In June of last year, Monolith Soft released the Wii RPG Xenoblade in Japan. The game grabbed the top sales spot in its premier week, moving 83,000 copies and received high marks (36/40) from the country’s popular Famitsu magazine. Ever since then (well, actually ever since its 2009 announcement) Wii owners in North America (NA) and Europe have been screaming for Nintendo to approve its localization into their territories.
The Kyoto based publisher finally satisfied one half of that equation today by releasing a trailer and a press release through Nintendo of Europe’s UK site. Apparently the game will be rebranded as Xenoblade Chronicles in Europe. Oddly, the trailer has not been translated into English. This likely indicates that the localization process is in the very early stages and that the game is still a ways off from releasing in Europe. Japanese text aside, the trailer shows off some cool looking beasties and enormous landscapes. The PR statement has since been taken down, but user Vinterbird over on the NeoGAF forums was able to snag it before Nintendo’s redaction.
XENOBLADE CHRONICLES TO REACH EUROPE
Nintendo of Europe can confirm that it will be bringing the epic RPG, Xenoblade Chronicles to Europe for Wii. The title, already launched in Japan, brings to life a universe where two worlds called Bionis and Mechonis fight a war that knows no end.
Join the battle for Bionis to repel the invasion of a terrifying mechanical army and uncover the secrets of a mystical sword called the Monado.
Xenoblade Chronicles will be launching later this year for Wii featuring both English and Japanese voice-overs and will be fully subtitled in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. Keep checking www.nintendo.dk for further information on this epic new adventure for Wii.
The Wii has long suffered from a dearth of quality RPGs, and its release schedule for this year is especially bare in the from of core games in general. It would be a real shame for Nintendo to prevent NA gamers from experiencing one of the more ambitious and better looking titles that has been developed for its platform. The European announcement would be encouraging in this regard, if not for the fact that the company previously released Monolith’s Disaster: Day of Crisis in both Japan and Europe but not in NA.
There used to be an embeded media player here, but it doesn't work anymore. We blame the Tumbeasts.
