inFAMOUS 2 Trailer Shows off Cole’s New Abilities

Watch Cole light up New Marais with lightning, fire and ice powers. WARNING! SOME PLOT SPOILERS INSIDE!

In a Sony blog post today, some light was shed on the reason why iNFAMOUS 2 has shifted its narrative focus to a new city.  After surviving the chaos that went down in Empire City, series protagonist Cole McGrath learns that there is an even more arduous battle in store for him in the future.  In order to prepare himself for the fight with a prophesied “great beast,” he travels south to the city of New Marais with his best friend Zeke in tow.  Why New Marais?  Well apparently Dr. Sebastian Wolfe, who created the super weapon known as the Ray Sphere which is responsible for Cole’s powers,  resides there and has uncovered something that could potentially provide our hero with a major boost to his abilities.

Upon being confronted by the duo, the good doctor explains that he has discovered a special form of energy that governs all genetic mutations.  The technology that Wolfe has developed, such as the Ray Sphere, was created with the explicit purpose of concentrating and manipulating said energy.  Sony explained how this could affect Cole:  “To most people a dose of this mutative energy is fatal—but for a small fraction, the energy unlocks their untapped potential.  These rare individuals are called Conduits, and of course Cole is one of them.”

On top of all that, Wolfe has also developed gadgets known as Blast Cores.  There are six of these bad boys in existence and Dr. Wolfe has hidden them around the city to prevent seedy individuals from seizing control of them.  Cole is going to need to track them all down as they are capable of safely storing the mutagen energy for lengthy periods of time.  In the new trailer below, you can see just how Cole will benefit from evolving his abilities through Wolfe’s technology.

There used to be an embeded media player here, but it doesn't work anymore. We blame the Tumbeasts.
