Skyrim PC Mods Could be Playable on Consoles

Bethesda is looking into bringing a traditionally PC-only feature to 360 and PS3.

Anyone who plays PC games will tell you that one of the best benefits of doing so is all those user-created mods that offer tweaks to the experience.  If you purchase all of your games on consoles, then there truly is no substitute for mods.  Bethesda Softworks wants to change that with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

In an interview with Edge, Executive Producer Todd Howard spoke up on the matter. Howard stated that mods from the game’s Creation Kit “work on all consoles”. So why haven’t mods already made their way to consoles then? “As far as the 360 and PS3, right now there’s not an avenue for us to make that available, but we’d very much like to find a way. We have talked to Microsoft and Sony, and so there’s a chance it might happen one day, [but] I don’t see it happening for release.”

The producer explained that since 90% of their games’ audience is on consoles, they are motivated to bringing them the full Elder Scrolls experience. While the tools themselves would still only be available on the PC, he very much wants everyone who buys the game to be able to experience the mods created from them.
