Official: Wii Dropping to $149.99 on May 15

The console will be bundled with Mario Kart Wii at a new, low price.

Last month, MTB brought you the story that the Nintendo Wii would be dropping to a $149.99 MSRP in May and yesterday we mentioned that Mario Kart Wii would be bundled with the system going forward, while Wii Sports would join a new budget line of Wii games. In a statement released today, Nintendo officially confirmed all of that information.

Starting on May 15, shoppers can pick up a black or white Wii complete with a matching wheel and a copy of Mario Kart Wii. The package will sell at the previously rumored $149.99 price point. The newly introduced black steering wheel will also be sold separately at $9.99.

On the same day, Nintendo will launch its budget-priced “Wii Select” line. The first titles to join this $19.99 lineup are: Wii Sports, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk and Mario Super Sluggers. It was previously believed that Super Smash Bros. Brawl would also join this cast, but apparently that is not the case.
