Tweet Land – Play With Reality

Countless people log onto Twitter from home or on the go to tell the world what is happening to them.  Those not in line with the new age of social networking are baffled by the idea that someone would Tweet their lives on a situation by situation basis.  Well new games within Tweet Land could get you involved in Twitter in a very interesting way.  Tweet Land will contain two games (for now), Route 140 and Love City.  Route 140 is racing based, while Love City has you controlling an anti-care bear who is fighting off people trying to hug you.

The games are both different, but have the same basic way that the world is altered: tweets.  Tweets from everywhere in the world affect your game, and what happens to you in the game.  Route 140 is a driving game that is affected by certain tweets by having to avoid obstacles that appear with certain trigger words.  Words or phrases like “meteor” and “car accident” that are tweeted happen on screen in real time.  My only problem with this is that if someone were to tweet “my friend just died in a car accident“, it kind of feels messed up that this would create a car accident on screen.  The technology itself is pretty cool though, and there is a growing list of trigger words that will be used.

The second game for Tweet Land is Love City.  You are a hatred filled bear that wields a gun that runs on, you guessed it, hate.  The gun is reloaded by tweets that feature the word “hate”. You are probably wondering what you are fighting though, right?  Well you are a angry bear, and people are trying to hug you and you must keep them away.  The reason why they are hugging you is because of all of the tweets that pass through the game that contain the word “love“.  With the endless tweets containing those two words, you already have an interesting game.  There’s more though, as tweets that contain words and phrases like “light saber” and “big gun” will yield you those weapons.  This game in a way reminds me of Scribblenauts, for its pliability.

Tweet land is being created by a group of people from Costa Rica.  While there is no official release date, the official site says that it will be done by mid-2011.  On the site’s main page is what appears to be a working version of the Tweet Land’s “overworld”.  Upon further inspection, the site is just a mock version but if this is any indication of how it will look, it is pretty cool.  Keep an eye out for this game sometime this year.
