Fable: The Journey powered by Kinect and Unreal Engine 3

Fable: The Journey

At the Microsoft press conference today Peter Molyneux showed off Fable: The Journey. It was predicted that a Fable game would show up at this years E3, but I don’t think anyone really expected it to be a Kinect game. From the short demo we saw it appears to be an “on rails” adventure where you use your hand gestures to cast specific spells. This time around Fable is equipped with the latest in Unreal Engine technology Lionhead says will bring powerful new experiences to the franchise. We received this in a press release:

“In using the Unreal Engine with its excellent tools for crafting cinematic in-game experiences, it allows our developers to focus on the quality and uniqueness of ‘Fable: The Journey,'” said Peter Molyneux, creative director of Lionhead Studios and Microsoft Game Studios Europe. “Already we are seeing a more beautiful, vivid and unique world full of dramatic moments and have crafted new, never seen before gameplay experiences.”

Personally, I would have rather seen a regular Fable game using UE3, but I guess this is good for you Kinect lovers out there.
