What can you say about Galaga? If you have not heard about this 1981 arcade classic, you have probably been living under a rock for the past 30 years. The simple space shooter is a definite quarter eater, even today. I can’t even tell you how much money I have spent in arcades playing this awesome game. In fact, I can sense a Galaga/Ms Pac Man machine within seconds of entering an arcade. See that? This game has magical powers… well maybe not, but fans like me are happy about the newest additions to the various remakes of the title.
Just recently, and in honor of Galaga‘s 30th anniversary of awesomeness, the Galaga 30th Collection was released for iOS. This “title” is actually a free application for iOS devices, which will act as a hub for various releases. I know it sounds like you are just downloading some gimmick, but bundled with this free app is a copy of Galaxian. You can purchase the 3 other remade titles within the app, and they are Galaga, Gaplus, and Galaga ’88. How could they get better than they are? Updated graphics, new touch panel controls, and achievement pins are just some of what you will see in these new games. Also, the inclusion of “Galaga points” will let you upgrade your ship. You can download this new app here.
On a side note, this iOS app is not the only party favor for the 30th anniversary. Galaga Legions DX, made by the same team that brought you Pac Man Championship Edition DX, will release on the 360 and PS3. Even more exciting than that will be the Nintendo 3DS title, Pac Man & Galaga DIMENSIONS which will include a puzzle adventure called Pac Man Tilt. Last but not least is Galaga Special Edition, releasing on Java, Brew, and Blackberry. It’s a Galaga kind of summer.
