In a recent interview with CVG, Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells warned that fans might want to temper their excitement about returning characters in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. “We’re not dogmatic about anything,” he explained to CVG in regards to killing off any of the main cast of the series. “If that is what it takes [to advance the storyline] then that’s what it takes.” But they’re not just going to start flat-lining characters just for the heck of it. Wells explained: “not just for dramatic shock value – it would definitely have to tie into the narrative that [we’re] trying to tell and expose an aspect of Drake’s character that we would want to delve into.”
The fate of Drake’s lady-friends is still up in the air, but learned at E3 that both Elena and Chloe will make some sort of a return for this third-go-around. Don’t expect them to take center stage, though. “We are trying to keep things fresh and draw certain aspects of Nate’s personality out as well as the characters he’s surrounded with,” says Wells. “Chloe and Elena are back but they aren’t the emphasis of the story the way they were in Uncharted 2. This time round the emphasis is on Victor Sullivan and his mentor/protégé relationship with Drake.” Can Uncharted 3’s bromance top Uncharted 2’s love triangle? We’ll just have to wait until November 1st to find out.
