We Heard You Like Free Games: Ultima IV

Take an all-expenses-paid vacation to the late 80s and Britannia. Yes, it's free. What do you mean "what's a DOS?!"

Yes, we know that E3 is next week and everyone is super excited over the announcement of Nintendo’s newest system.  Of course, we are fully aware that you want to know more about those big titles like Bioshock Infinite and Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.  But wouldn’t you rather play one of the best entries in one of gaming’s classic RPG series – and for free?

Along with the recent release of Ultima Underworld for sale on GoG.com, EA came out this week and posted a new site for the finished, but not forgotten, Ultima franchise.  The website, Ultima Forever, proudly boasts on its front page the beloved lineage that Richard Garriott begot as well as intentions for future content commemorating what was once the gold standard for the computer RPG industry.  More importantly for you, our beloved readers, is the free offering hosted on the page for Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar. Simply by signing up for the newsletter, you too can own a classic piece of PC gaming software.

For some of you, playing through Ultima IV again will no doubt be a trip down memory lane.  A bunch of you will likely squint at the interface and marvel at its purely exquisite 8-bit graphics.  Yes, this originally came on a floppy disk, but that doesn’t make it any less of an absolute classic.  Do yourselves a favor, people, give it a try.

The Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar download link can be found here.
