Catherine Demo Available on July 12

Next week is a good a time as any to push boxes and talk to sheep-men.

Catherine

Some of you out there may not have read our recent Catherine preview.  Well, shame on you.  If you haven’t read the article then go do so now.  We’ll wait here.

You’re back?  Awesome.  Turns out there’s some good news for you.  On July 12, Atlus will be releasing a demo for Catherine on both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.  The demo is pretty much identical to the one available on the Japanese PSN from last year and will include a decent chunk of both story and puzzle solving.  Atlus also sent out a nice little press release announcing the upcoming demo:

NEW “NIGHTMARE” TRAILER FOR CATHERINE PROVES THAT LOVE CAN BE SCARY; DEMO TO BE RELEASED ON JULY 12 (ALSO: NEW SCREENSHOTS!)
Sometimes, love is a disturbing, terrifying battlefield…

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA — JULY 5, 2011 — ATLUS today released a new trailer (in addition to a new batch of screenshots) depicting the twisted nightmares at the heart of the upcoming action-adventure/puzzle game Catherine, releasing July 26, 2011 for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system (PS3™) and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. In addition, the publisher revealed that the official Catherine demo would release for both platforms on July 12, giving fans an early opportunity to experience a taste of the game’s bold visual style and daring subject matter prior to its July 26 launch.

The new video introduces viewers to a growing phenomenon that has just recently enveloped Vincent, the game’s protagonist. When he goes to sleep every night, he finds himself in the middle of twisted, terrifying nightmares, forced to climb up before his footing gives way and he plummets to his demise, and away from horrific manifestations in order to stay alive. Moreover, Vincent is not alone in this challenge; other men are struggling through the same supernatural maze. All of this is, of course, complementary to the dilemmas Vincent creates for himself during the day in his interpersonal relationships.

The July 12 demo will introduce players to the main characters, particularly Vincent and his growing sense of panic at repeatedly finding himself within terror-filled nightmares. Fans can enjoy the stunning anime from Studio 4°C, the beautifully rendered in-engine cutscenes, and get their first hands-on with Catherine’s core gameplay as they navigate Vincent through his nightmares. Even North American gamers who tried the Japanese demo will have reason to download, as it will offer them a chance to preview to the English voice track. Fans are encouraged to log onto their platform of choice download the Catherine demo early next week!

Catherine is currently scheduled to release on July 26, 2011 for PlayStation 3 system and Xbox 360 system with an MSRP of $59.99 for the standard edition and $79.99 for the limited-run “Love Is Over” Deluxe Edition (available at participating retailers, while supplies last). Fans are encouraged to pre-order at participating retailers to receive the Catherine Sound Disc & Art Book, a free extra available to customers who reserve either the standard or deluxe edition of the game for either platform.
