Netflix Now Available on 3DS; 3D Movies Coming Soon

Possibly the best reason yet for turning on your 3DS has arrived.

Well before the 3DS released, Nintendo promised that the handheld would have Netflix streaming abilities. Now, several months after its launch, that functionality has finally gone live. North American gamers with a Netflix account can download the application — after getting the latest system update that went up on June 6th — and begin streaming TV shows and movies to the unit. The video is displayed on the upper screen on the two screen device.

Nintendo also slipped another fun factoid into the announcement: 3D movies are coming. To be clear, this is different from the 3D movie trailers that have already shown up on the platform. The press release from Ninty states that “select” movies will soon be viewable in 3D. There’s no word yet as to when that will happen, but you can be sure that we’ll keep you posted when the details surface.
