The 3DS has had a bit of a rough go of things since it launched in North America back in March. A weak game library, missing features that were only recently added, and the fickleness of the 3D market all contributed to a decent rather than spectacular commercial and critical reception. The latest insult the little guy has to suffer comes straight from Nintendo themselves; last month, the DS moved significantly more units (386,000) than the 3DS did (143,000). Ouch.
That being said, Nintendo did boast that both the 3DS and Wii “saw double-digit growth over the previous month.” Additionally, the platform had its first game reach the top ten list in June. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D was the second best selling game last month, moving 283,000 cartridges. It was bested only by Sucker Punch’s inFAMOUS 2 in the top slot.
