THQ Pulling the Plug on the Red Faction IP

The franchise won't continue in "any meaningful way."

Publisher THQ has been most forthcoming about their disappointment over Red Faction: Armageddon’s sales performance and the scathing continued in an investors’ call this very evening. THQ CEO Brian Farrell referred to the series as “niche” and indicated that it was no longer in the publisher’s best interest to green-light further games in the series.

“Given that that title, now in two successive versions, has just found a niche, we do not intend to carry forward with that franchise in any meaningful way,” Farrell said. At the same time, though, he issued strong praise for the “talented” team behind Armageddon (Volition). Rather than shuttering or scaling back the studio – as is often the case when large budget games bomb – Farrell indicated that they will be handed the keys to Insane, which is tied to film director Guillermo del Toro.
