Voltron: Defender of the Universe First Details, Video

Get ready to bust out those old, giant lion robots and give King Zarkon's forces what for.

There used to be an embeded media player here, but it doesn't work anymore. We blame the Tumbeasts.

THQ’s downloadable Voltron game will make its official debut at Comic-Con this weekend, but the publisher has elected to float some details and a video out there in advance of the event.  The game — obviously based on the cheesy ’80s anime about a giant robot formed from five smaller lion bots — is coming to both PSN and XBLA on October 25th for $10.  According to IGN, the game will contain clips of the series to illustrate major moments, such as the discovery of the lions.

The action-adventure title will have five player online and two player offline co-op.  Each player will control one of the lions; expect each of them to have unique abilities and weaknesses.  Of course, it wouldn’t be a Voltron game if you couldn’t form up as the giant robot to defend the universe from the dastardly King Zarkon.  When in Voltron form, you’ll collectively control his enormous sword.  It’s hard to imagine a control method that will make that feel fluid, but we’ll have to wait and see what developer Behaviour Interactive is planning on that front.  No word at this time as to whether or not Voltron will retain his funky break dancing move set from Robot Chicken.
