Nintendo has announced that the 3DS will be available in a new color in North America next month. The “Flame Red” 3DS will release here on September 9th alongside of Star Fox 64 3D. It was previously released in Japan as the “Flare Red” 3DS. The publisher is hoping that the new color and price drop to $179.99 will boost sales of the floundering handheld.
It takes more than pretty colors and a cheap MSRP to draw gamers in, though. With that in mind, Nintendo also announced that eight more Ubisoft games will arrive for the system prior to year end. “Ubisoft has been a big supporter of Nintendo 3DS since the beginning with eight Nintendo 3DS games released to date and another eight games coming out before the end of calendar year 2011,” said Laurent Detoc, the publisher’s North American president. On the first party front, Super Mario 3D Land is slated for November with Mario Kart 7 following in December. It remains to be seen whether or not these moves and releases will turn things around for the 3DS, but they should at least please Nintendo fans.
