Fridays in the Key of Geek: Zelda Meets Metal

The Legend of Zelda theme gets shredded.

I’ve always especially liked covers that put a unique twist on the song that’s being used, whether it’s a lighthearted turn on ‘Single Ladies’ by Pomplamoose, or something with the somber gravity of Johnny Cash’s take on ‘Hurt’.

Guitarist Eric Calderone has done just that with the Legend of Zelda theme by turning it into a metal tour de force. Not only does he have very strong technique, but you can also see on his face that he’s plain old enjoying himself, especially when he pulls off a tough line in the song. That kind of enthusiasm shines through in his playing and makes the cover that much more enjoyable.

There used to be an embeded media player here, but it doesn't work anymore. We blame the Tumbeasts.

I’d love to see Eric and Zack B (who does drum covers that we’ve featured before) team up with Powerglove, combine all their video game cover powers, and just melt faces around the globe. T’would be glorious.
