This feels familiar. It’s almost as if this has happened on almost every version of Nintendo’s handheld DS system. Oh, wait, it has. Nintendo has this foolproof plan that works every time, like magic. They release a system in two colors that are usually not gender specific. Then, months later, they release more colors. There is always a pink version, because it is obviously every girl’s best friend. Girls then trade in their systems for the exact same system, in pink, because they have to have it.
The result: major $$$ for Nintendo; folks too poor to buy any games; and a surplus of used systems at your local game retailer that will likely sit there for a super long time like so many Pokemon-flavored Game Boy Colors. A better, but less profitable, way to handle things would be to release the obvious colors up front. That would make way too much sense, though, and will not be happening anytime soon. This new 3DS only has pricing for Australia ($249.95 AU), so it is not confirmed in North America.
