Nintendo Expects to Have Lost $1.32 Billion From First Half of Year

Blame it on the yen.

Word out of Reuters today claims that Nintendo is going to be facing a record loss once it posts its fiscal earnings for the first half of this fiscal year. Initial projections from Nintendo had them expecting a 55 billion yen loss, but it seems that the financial shortcoming will be a lot more severe. According to Nintendo, the fiscal losses will amount to somewhere around 100 billion yen (that’s $1.32 billion for us Stateside).

While brand critics and cynics will likely chime in with some such theory about the Wii U or 3DS being responsible for this financial sucker punch, the principal cause of the high losses are directly related to the current value of the yen in Japan in addition to the aforementioned crowd response to its new and upcoming hardware plans.
