Vita ‘First Edition’ Bundle Will Go on Sale Early

Waiting for launch day is SO last-gen.

Is the February 22nd launch date of the PlayStation Vita too far away for you to wait for? Impatient North American gamers who want to get their grubby little hands all over the slick device and its gorgeous screen a little sooner can do so. Starting today, anyone who preorders what Sony is calling the First Edition Bundle will get the next-gen handheld one week early on February 15th.

The United States version of the bundle packs in a PS Vita 3G + Wi-Fi model, a limited edition case, 4GB PS Vita Memory Card, and a totally awesome looking game Little Deviants for the price of $349.99. Our gaming buddies to the North will get mostly the same package, but will be saddled with the Wi-Fi only model and pay $299.99.

Sony is essentially asking that you pay $50 for the right to get a new system one week early and a handheld game that doesn’t exactly have most gamers chomping at the bit for. Paying the extra coin is completely optional, of course, but this could develop into a trend where Sony – and those other guys – put select quantities of next-gen platforms on sale prior to the official launch to mega-fans that are willing to be price-gouged so that they can rush to the internet to type in “First!”

Would you be willing to fork over some extra money in exchange for getting the Vita before anyone else? What about for a future home console? Leave us a comment, because we’d love to hear your thoughts on this new strategy.
