Given the history of core third party games on Nintendo consoles this generation, and the history of third party titles in general on their consoles over the last three generations, this news is almost impossible to fathom. Whenever it is that the Wii U finally launches in 2012, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge will be right there debuting with it. This makes it the first official launch game for the platform. Koei Tecmo made the announcement while reporting on its midyear financial results.
Just let that news sink in for a moment. One of the most outwardly violent and bloody franchises on the planet is going to have its next major game available in time for the launch of a Nintendo system. As a Nintendo fan of nearly 25 years, I’m still trying to get used to the idea. Not that this is a bad thing in any way whatsoever, but it is difficult to process the idea.
Razor’s Edge on the U will be a port of the 360/PS3 version with tablet control functionality of some sort added in. The only thing we know for certain about the launch of the Big N’s next-gen console is that it will be arriving after April, and almost certainly beyond E3 2012. MTB is assuming it will happen right around this time next year, but that’s just conjecture at this point.
