The Last Guardian Is Still in Development

Fumito Ueda breaks his silence and says that he is still working on Team Ico's next title in some capacity.

PlayStation gamers had a bit of a mini-meltdown last week when it was revealed that revered game designer Fumito Ueda (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus) was supposedly leaving Sony as a regular employee — or had possibly even already done so — and was transitioning into a freelance role. Ueda’s Team Ico studio is currently working on The Last Guardian, and most core gamers on the PS3 are not handling its repeated delays and current vague release details all that well.

Ueda-san took to Twitter today and reminded the world that this very day is the 10th anniversary of Ico. Of more relevance to fans was his revelation that development is still a go on The Last Guardian. He elected not to mention what exactly his current role on the project is, but the designer clearly still has his hands in the mix.

Although that doesn’t give us much to go on, at least we know that things are still progressing. Sony currently has the spiritual sequel pegged for an ambiguous 2012 release.
