These days data equals dollars, and companies seem to be doing everything they can to squeeze extra money out of users; even if that money isn’t coming from the users themselves. XBox Live has been catching grief for a while due to the fact that it’s a pay service, yet users are still bombarded with ads. Google and Facebook (try to) track everything you do on the internet to present ads to you and sell other data to advertisers, but that has a bit of a different feeling since you aren’t paying for their services.
Both the PS4 and XBox One will both have pay online services this time around, and at the very least Microsoft is interested in using your data for advertising and marketing (which I wouldn’t count Sony out for doing the same). The question this week is how do you feel about being monetized? Some people don’t care, others feel that it’s unfair since they already pay for services. Others don’t care about the money aspect and have privacy concerns. Where do you stand? Let us know in the survey below, and feel free to elaborate.
