Keep Your Marshmallows Intact in Avalanche 2

It's not easy keeping your jumping marshmallow from getting crushed or burned in Beast Games' Avalanche 2: Super Avalanche, but it's fun to try.

It didn’t seem like it would be all that hard to keep my marshmallow character safe in Avalanche 2: Super Avalanche. Once I got out of the tutorial and saw the speeds the blocks fell and the floor bubbling up with lava, I realized that I was wrong.

The premise for this game is simple: go up. Blocks of random shapes and sizes keep falling down, and you’re supposed to navigate the path the level builds for you without falling into the lava, getting crushed, or touching an enemy. It sounds very simple, but then you remember when that concept was used in a heartless level from Castlevania III (Skip to 3:13) and you run screaming and naked into the night. I guarantee that Avalanche 2 is a lot more fun, though. A least a marshmallow jumps faster and higher than Trevor Belmont.

Avalanche 2 moves fast while you try to keep climbing. Blocks keep coming in quicker, and due to the random drops, they might close in over your head. You’re a sturdier marshmallow than most, though, and can bash the roof apart with a couple of smacks from your head. That lava is rising, though, so you need to move fast and keep going up. There are power-ups to help you along, though, such as rockets that let you fly for short periods and things like that. These handy things are hidden in chests, so give in to that natural urge to break open any chest you see and take the precious things within. You can also collect coins from jumping on enemies and boxes as well, and these let you buy specific power-ups you want from shops.Random power-ups are nice, but getting a jet pack when you need it is beyond sweet.

So, all in all, climb and get treasure. This concept is a lot of fun to just pick up and play; definitely the sort of thing that should already be on Greenlight but isn’t (I’m hinting that you should vote for it). There’s a good demo on Beast Games‘ site, one that’s a lot more fun and approachable than late-game Castlevania levels, so give it a spin.

And if you suck at it, consider these handy tips from Billy Wilcox, motivational life coach. His talks have already made me a better VideoBall player, and they’ll change your life. Not necessarily for the better, but your life will indeed be different.
