Hit the ground running

InMomentum

inMomentum is a very bright, fast-paced game that has a lot of potential.  The back story to this game is basically nonexistent.  In the tutorial it is mentioned you have a “condition,” and that the suit you are wearing helps with it, but that’s all.  However, I’m not quite sure how a suit that helps you jump better, slows down time, and increases gravity can help with any condition.  It kind of bugged me that they didn’t explain the situation more.

inMomentum is a puzzle/racing game where you free-run through courses.  You are able to jump off both horizontal and vertical surfaces as you either collect data spheres or just try to best your own time.  You are also able to slow down time so you can think out a move without worrying as much about the time you might be wasting.  You are also able to increase gravity at the push of a button.  This is very useful when you feel like you are going to over-jump a surface, or when you need to abort a jump that you realize won’t make it as far as you thought.  All you have to do is increase the gravity and you will drop to the ground much faster.

There are also various kinds of power-ups that you can use when you need them; but you can only carry two.  Some power-ups can be used against other players to slow them down or even freeze them in place.  There is also one that will let you teleport a short distance.  Then lastly, there are the ones that work on yourself and you can’t live without: the speed boost and mega jump.

The game also has a multiplayer mode, if you have friends to play with.  I say this because currently, when I have tried to play a multiplayer match, I’m unable to find anyone to play with.  Even with three ways to find matches — quick match, browsing, or hosting your own — none of the three ever gave me someone to play against.  There is not even any form of A.I. opponent to play against.  This was a let down, because racing by yourself is only fun for so long.  Hopefully Digital Arrow will create A.I. profiles that you can face off against when there are no players to race.

inMomentum is enjoyable, but is limited by the lack of available multiplayer matches.  On the upside, each level is a challenge that will keep you on your toes.  In fact, you might find your whole body getting into it, especially on the long jumps.  So if you’re looking for a game to kill some time, you might want to check inMomentum out.  However, if you want hours of fun, then get your friends to play it too.
