A user on Twitter by the name of dan_mui had asked Capcom Europe if there were any new announcements were pending for Marvel vs Capcom 3 (MvC3 for short) and apparently got this response:
CapcomEuro: “@dan_mui MvsC3 is out, done and dusted, no further announcements planned“
If that’s true, then what would be the point of the last 2 blank slots on the character select screen and voting on new characters on the Capcom Unity community site? Some users around the web have inferred the reason for calling MvC3 done and this tweet as supporting evidence is the possibility that MvC3 didn’t sell as well worldwide as Capcom had hoped. When you consider that it is a multiplatform and worldwide release, that could be a damning inference. Some of the folks in the serious fighting communities have lamented that MvC3 was just a cash grab at nostalgia in addition to being something that wasn’t a solid product like Super Street Fighter IV; which is a sentiment I had shared in my personal review of the game. While there is no word if that tweet is the official stance from Capcom or not, some of the serious fighting game fans out there have been salivating for greener pastures such as the Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition DLC and/or Arcana Heart 3 while forgetting Marvel vs Capcom 3 or revisiting the past with Marvel vs Capcom 2. We will see what the future holds for Marvel vs Capcom 3. If it is truly done or just on a temporary suspension for additional content.
