A scant few days ago, Valve announced that Portal 2 was going to be getting some DLC and that more details would surface shortly. Well, shortly has come and gone, and we’ve got the initial details on “Portal 2 DLC #1.” Development on the content is already underway, and it will be released at some point this summer. Aperture test subjects can look forward to “new test chambers for players, leaderboards, challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes, and more”. More sounds good to us.
What’s really amazing is that it’s going to be free on all platforms (PS3, 360, PC and Mac). Free DLC is pretty much unheard of on Xbox Live. In fact, Valve previously attempted to release free downloadable content for Left 4 Dead through the service and was in turn shot down by Microsoft. It’s likely that the publisher caved on that front owing to the fact that the download would certainly have been free via Steam on all competing platforms.
Whatever the reason, free is good. Especially when it’s in regards to more gameplay for Valve’s “fastest-selling” title since 2004’s Half-Life 2.
