Regarding Site Downtime and Technical Difficulties (4/4/11-4/5/11)

Hey guys,

As some of you might have noticed, there were some issues with the site through most of yesterday. Everything was running up to snuff until about noon yesterday when downtime reared its ugly head. News from our tech side is that apparently our web host decided midday would be an awesome time to migrate the site to new SQL servers…without actually migrating anything that mattered. This, as you might imagine, really messed things up.

Things are largely fixed now, at least from the standpoint of us being able to go about business-as-usual and you (our valued readers) being able to peruse the site as normal. Unfortunately there were some newer postings that were lost because of the hosting service’s goof, but we’ll be working on getting back the things that were lost (we have some writers that will be in ‘Hulk Smash!’ mode if not). Some images may also not be loading properly, but that is a known issue being worked on and should be completely resolved through the course of the night.

Go send a thank-you note to Jarret Redding for staying up half the night to get things working as well as they are, and we sincerely apologize for the interruption of service.

Thanks for your time guys. Go get reading.

P.S. – A request of you all, if I could? If you run into anything that’s not functioning properly and/or messed up, please let us know, either right here in the comments or through e-mail. It would be much appreciated, as the focus has been on just getting the big things back up, and there hasn’t been much time to go through everything with a magnifying glass. Any feedback could give our techies a list to address and get anything we missed fixed more quickly. Thanks again.
