Sony Online Entertainment Claims Customer Information is Safe

An investigation is ongoing, but it sounds like SOE users are in the clear.

Stories of the PlayStation Network outage and subsequent leakage of customers’ personal data have been well publicized. Meanwhile, that other online arm of Sony, Sony Online Entertainment, has been relatively quiet on that front. Well, SOE finally spoke up and reported that no personal info has been compromised. Well, as far as they know it hasn’t, anyways.

An SOE rep posted in their forums that “to the best of our knowledge, no customer personal information got out to any unauthorized person or persons.” Sony is still in the midst of an investigation into the matter and promises to notify users in the event that new information becomes available. SOE user information is stored separately from that of PSN customers, which explains how the former group could be safe. Yet, their statement makes it obvious that they still don’t know for certain if all is well. Gamers playing SOE titles, such as the popular DC Universe Online, would do well to continue monitoring the situation.
