Your chance to play that new Diablo game, the one you’ve been waiting for since Diablo II’s 2000 release, may be coming sooner than anyone would have thought. Joystiq has a direct quote from today’s Activision quarterly earnings call that delivers the good news in no uncertain terms.
“We began internal company-wide testing last week,” Blizzard’s Mike Morhaime confirmed. “The game looks great, and we’re currently targeting a Q3 launch for external beta testing.” Details as to how to get into the beta were not given; however, they must be coming fairly soon if the program is going to go live sometime between July and September.
Morhaime also said that the development team is working their tails off in an effort to complete the game by year’s end. An actual release date was not announced, which won’t be a surprise to anyone familiar with the history of the meticulous studio.
