Yesterday, a rumor surfaced that the fine folks over at Remedy Entertainment were developing a sequel to last year’s Alan Wake. Remedy’s Oskari Häkkinen informed Joystiq that the rumor is both true and false. They are indeed working on an Alan Wake project, but he says that “this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2.” Häkkinen also said that it is not any sort of DLC.
So what exactly is Remedy working on? Sadly, they chose not to divulge that information. An official reveal is definitely coming though; Häkkinen told Joystiq that “it’s a shame that this news leaked before our official announcement”. Sounds to MTB like we’re looking at a “wait ’til E3” situation here. Remedy did not specifically say as much, but made numerous references to an official showing that will “shed a little more light” on the game and come complete with some visuals for fans to enjoy.
They’re still working on nailing down specific platforms and pricing, but hinted strongly at a release in autumn of this year. Whatever the project is, it is said to have something to offer something for the fans while also providing a great jumping in point for those unacquainted with the IP. We’re looking at a number of possibilities here. It could be a prequel, an XBLA/PSN spin-off, a straight port of the original to the PS3 and/or PC or perhaps some sort of expanded re-release of Alan Wake complete with some new features or DLC.
Your guess is as good as ours at this point. So speak up in the comments section and let us know what you think it is that “a slice of [Remedy’s] team has been working on for the last months”.
