Just like the old adage says, when it rains it pours. More news has come out of EA this week regarding yet another delay for a hotly anticipated BioWare property. Having already seen Mass Effect 3 get its release date pushed back to sometime after this upcoming holiday season, it looks like Star Wars: The Old Republic may be sharing a similar fate.
In regards to an EA shareholder investor call which took place on May 4, Joystiq reported that the expected release for the The Old Republic has now been pushed back from its initially assumed Holiday 2011 shipping date. In Joystiq’s article, a quote from EA Chief Financial Officer Eric Brown was taken saying that “the low end of our guidance range assumes the outside possibility of a January launch.”
While this delay certainly is going to bum out Star Wars fans, I can’t help but feel this delay can only make the game better in the end. Being that this is BioWare’s first attempt at the massively multiplayer online genre and with an incredibly popular property no less, the more time available for development the better.
