Call of Duty Elite Beta Begins on July 14

You must be at least this 1337 to play.

Although the “full capabilities of the service” will not go live until Modern Warfare 3 launches in November, Activision has revealed that the beta for Call of Duty Elite will start on July 14.  Since it was announced five days ago on Activision’s site, the beta has netted more than a million applicants.  I just hope for their sake that they’re all elite enough to make the cut.   The publishers says that Elite will be highlighted by FPS innovations in the areas of leaderboards, heat maps, and player data.  So, yeah, it should have some pretty sweet menus.

It will focus heavily on social aspects, meaning that players can form “custom groups based on their likes, interests, or affiliations, and then have those groups follow you directly into the game.”  Call of Duty Elite will be a major part of Activision’s E3 showing, so expect plenty of additional details in the hours and days ahead.
