Codemasters’ Web Site Breached

Sadly, large amounts of user information is believed to have been stolen during the attack.

On June 3rd, Codemasters’ web site was attacked by hackers and subsequently shut down. After conducting an investigation, they discovered that the intruders gained access to the following: Codemasters.com website, access to the Codemasters corporate website and sub-domains, DiRT 3 VIP code redemption page, access to the DiRT 3 VIP code redemption page and the Codemasters EStore. What this means for site users, is that their names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, encrypted passwords, dates of birth, newsletter preferences, any biographies entered by users, details of last site activity, IP addresses, Xbox Live Gamertags and order history was compromised. On the bright side, they don’t store payment information on the site, so credit card data is safe. Still, that’s a lot of stolen info.

In response to the incident, Codemasters stated: “Whilst we do not have confirmation that any of this data was actually downloaded onto an external device, we have to assume that, as access was gained, all of these details were compromised and/or stolen.” They have apologized for the breach and are advising that all customers change passwords associated with Codemasters and be extra weary of potential internet scams. All of those affected are being contacted by the publisher.
