3DS Gets a Price Drop in Two Weeks, Early Adopters Get Compensated

Cross-eyed 3DS owners get even further cross-eyed through fits of rage. Nintendo tries to help.

Nintendo 3DS

Well that didn’t take long at all, did it?  Only a few months after its North American release, the Nintendo 3DS is getting a substantial price drop.  On August 12, the Nintendo 3DS will be getting slapped with a $169.99 sticker.  For those keeping score, that’s the same price the Nintendo DSi XL currently goes for on retail sales.  Oh, and $80 less than what all those guys who stood in line for the 3DS paid only a handful of weeks back.

Nintendo is already on damage control and offering some twenty games through the eShop for those early 3DS adopters out there.  To be specific, ten classic NES games and another ten Gameboy Advance titles will be available for free for those gamers who already have the newest Nintendo handheld.  While Nintendo of America isn’t giving the full list of available games out yet, they have mentioned some pretty big titles.  The announced titles include the likes of Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. for the original NES, as well as a handful of excellent GBA games such as Super Mario Advance 3, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, and Yoshi’s Island.

The NES titles will all be available for download as of September 1, while the GBA games will be released in their entirety by the end of the year.  Another strange kicker: the GBA games will only be available for those early adopters as there are no plans to make them available for purchase otherwise.
