Capcom Officially Announces Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

Capcom asks burned Marvel vs Capcom 3 players to open up their wallets again for a second chance.

Some of you may remember that in my review for Marvel vs Capcom 3 earlier this year, I made mention that I felt the game was rushed and ill conceived. Then, just this past week, an Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 rumor from The Quarter Bin surfaced and was discussed in our most recent Mashcast. The scuttlebutt was that a potential re-release of Marvel vs Capcom 3 was due to be announced close to the San Diego Comic Con this Saturday. Well, if you felt burned by chucking away $60 – $70 for Marvel vs Capcom 3, Capcom hopes that you’ll still consider their official announcement of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 as a plea to open up your wallets once more; this time, for an improved experience as well as an “Epic Rematch”.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 has an announced price of $39.99 and the press release makes no mention of if there is going to be a purchasable downloadable update option similar to the one for Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition. Capcom says there are vast improvements, Spectator Mode, 8 new stages, and 12 new characters. Strider, Firebrand, Ghost Rider, and Hawkeye are the first new fighters revealed. More characters will be shown off in teasers in the coming months before release – much like what was done for the first edition of the game. Personally, I hope that buyers of the “Special Edition” of Marvel vs Capcom 3 get some concession, as they probably felt the most burned from the disappointment of the game’s release, as opposed to players who opted for the standard edition. No release date has been announced at this time, but we do have some fresh images and the full press release here for your enjoyment.
