Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Slips into 2012

Hold on a second while we pause to put on our delay face-camo.

Konami has released notice that Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D will not be making it out during calendar year 2011. No reason was given for the delay and Konami representatives refused to specify its new release date as anything other than 2012. Personally, I’m just hoping that the delay won’t last as long as the ending to Metal Gear Solid 4.

This is yet another in a series of disappointing announcements for Nintendo’s underperforming new-ish handheld. Remember that Sega went out of its way to point out that Shinobi and Crush3d were delayed due to a missing letter e the 3DS not living up to expectations. The publisher decided that it was best to wait it out until the user base grows to a substantial enough level.

As a result, the 3DS is going to severely lack in 3D support during this holiday season. As is, the platform is basically living off of an N64 remake and its next release of note is yet another N64 remake. Considering its predecessors propensity for printing money, this has to be a pretty sobering experience for the Big N. The door is being left wide open for Sony to muscle in and establish the Vita as the handheld of choice for serious gamers. At this time, however, the jury’s still out on whether or not they can rise up and claim that title.
