Borderlands 2 Announced for Sometime After March 2012

Ain't no rest for the wicked.

Gearbox and 2K have made official what gamers had already assumed was a foregone conclusion: Borderlands 2 is in development. The sequel to the “extravasplosive” (Yes, 2K is inventing words now and we here at MTB are cool with that.) loot-fueled FPS will arrive at some point during the publisher’s 2013 fiscal year, which begins on April 1st of next year.

The publisher had this to say about the sequel: “Combining invention and evolution, Borderlands 2 features all-new characters, skills, environments, enemies, weapons and equipment, which come together in an ambitiously crafted story. Players will reveal secrets, and escalate mysteries of the Borderlands universe as they adventure across the unexplored new areas of Pandora.”

Ravenous fans and media types with bigger budgets than MTB will get to see the game at the Leipzig Gamescom from August 17th – 21st and PAX Prime from August 26th – 28th. It sounds like Borderlands 2 will not be in playable form at either show, which isn’t surprising considering how far off it still is. Those who can’t wait that long can read about the game in the latest issue of Game Informer. Details on one of the new character classes are part of the preview.
