Resident Evil: Code Veronica X Now Available for XBLA and PSN

Chievos!!!!

There used to be an embeded media player here, but it doesn't work anymore. We blame the Tumbeasts.

It has been a Resident Evil kind of year, with Capcom going the extra mile to release some of the best games in the series in digital formats for all to enjoy again without having to hook up their old systems.  Today, they made available Resident Evil: Code Veronica X for Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.  Fans like myself collected chanted “hell yeah” when it was revealed that these releases will support high definition graphics and support for trophies and achievements.  It is a sad but true fact that in-game rewards will define a purchase like this (even though I already have the game on two other systems).

If you have never heard of or played this game before, it centers around Resident Evil 5‘s protagonist’s sister, Claire Redfield.  She is still searching for her brother (following the events of Resident Evil 2) and has found herself shipped off to an island prison after infiltrating one of the Umbrella Corporation’s bases.  One night, while imprisoned, a wounded guard stumbles to her cell to let her out because of a virus outbreak on the island.  The prison is operated by Umbrella, and they use the prisoners for their testing.  Clearly this was not a wise choice.  Claire will have to survive the island and find some way to escape to reunite with her brother.

In addition, Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition will be available on the PlayStation Network starting on October 4th.  This title is already available on Xbox Live Arcade and the “Gold Edition” content can be found on the marketplace as well.  For your enjoyment, I’ve included the trailer for the new release (above) as well as the original release (below) so you can see that there is a difference.
