So it comes to this. Long Live Play isn’t a new product, or a relaunch of an old one. Instead, it’s a marketing campaign designed to honor gamers of all walks of life, and an opportunity for Sony to simply say ‘thank you’.
The first video in the culmination of the LLP effort pays tribute to Michael, a gamer who is one of us, and therefore stands for all of us. Marquee characters from amazing games gather to tell their experiences and salute a gamer in an ad that is in every way an instant classic.
There used to be an embeded media player here, but it doesn't work anymore. We blame the Tumbeasts.
We all have our stories every time we fire up any system and pop in a game, war stories that we tell our friends. PlayStation will be featuring about a dozen such stories in the same vein on national TV starting today with ‘Michael’. You may want to rewatch the video a few times, there’s a lot to catch and a lot of references and characters packed into the background. There’s also someone who should absolutely be in the running to play Nathan Drake in the new Uncharted movie.
Some may be disappointed that LLP wasn’t something…else, but I think it captures the essence of why we game, and continues Sony’s recent tradition of excellent advertising.
Long. Live. Play.
