Remember when it was strongly hinted by Ubisoft devs that there would be another Assassin’s Creed game next year? Well, now it’s confirmed. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot made it official earlier today when he informed investors of the publisher’s plans to release a sequel in 2012 during a conference call.
“There will be another great, full-fledged Assassin’s Creed title next year,” Guillemot said, according to Eurogamer. “It will be another major release and we will be communicating more about it in the coming months.”
No actual game info was provided by the Ubi boss, but I’m sure you’ll all sleep better knowing that it will be “great.” As mentioned, the announcement was teased last month and some light story details did emerge then. It has also been made clear that this game will bring about the end of Desmond’s part in the story. It is unlikely that that will equate to the culmination of the highly-profitable series, though.
“In Assassin’s Creed we set up a timeline with this whole end of the world plot of December 2012,” said Creative Lead Alexandre Amacio. “That’s fast approaching, and the story we have to tell, we obviously need to do it before we arrive at that point.”
Dating back to Assassin’s Creed II in 2009, this would be the fourth main release in the series in as many years. It is unclear at this time whether or not this game will bear the “III” moniker or if it is the Wii U release in the series that was previously announced.
