First Year Sales of 3DS Beats Out Those of the DS for the U.S.

3DS has impressive sales for its first year.

Nintendo announce today that they have sold 4.5 million units in the first year of the 3DS as compared to the sales of the DS, which was launched November 21,2004 with just 2.3 million units sold in the first year. Those are some impressive numbers.  However, this might be due in part to the huge slash in price just five months after the system’s release; going from $270 to $170.

3DS games and accessories also had much higher number then that of its predecessor.  The DS only had 58 games released in the first 12 months after release which the 3DS has had more than 100.  Nintendo might have made a lot of people upset with the slash in price so shortly after launch, but it turns out it was really a smart business move.
