Puzzle Dimension [Review]

This is how we roll.

Puzzle games have been and will always be endlessly flooding onto the game market.  Since so many different puzzle games exist, one has to be unique to hold undecided gamers’ attention.  Enter Puzzle Dimension, a simple yet complicated journey to collect sunflowers.  That really is the point of the game, but is a lot more fun than it sounds.  You control a shiny rolling ball across impossible structures to collect these flowers and overcome obstacles along the way.

One of the most notable things about this game is its graphics.  Everything looks cool and crisp while variable use of color keeps your eyes on the game.  The structures that you must navigate your way through are amazing in their complexity.   If you happen to be using a 3D television, Puzzle Dimension does support it.  Levels start out looking incredibly block-like until you roll across squares.  Each square the player hits will transform into a high definition version of itself.  Not only does this look pretty cool, but it’s useful so that you can see what blocks you have touched.  The game is scored, and one of the things you are scored on is hitting untouched squares quickly for a multiplier bonus.

Collecting sunflowers, turning low definition into high definition, that doesn’t sound very exciting does it?  Oh wait, it’s more challenging than all that.  Not only is each level one big labyrinthine structure, but you’ll also encounter collapsing squares, quick sand, and invisible tiles.  One wrong move and you may find yourself stuck and having to start the level over.  Gravity will often work against you as no matter where you fall, you’re going to drop downward.  This is true even if it were not true a moment before.  It sounds very confusing, but it isn’t an impossible game.  Challenges are fun, not rage inducing.  The game will definitely have you using a good bit of trial and error.

Puzzle Dimension is a great title that will keep you occupied for hours.  The only thing it lacks is an online leader board which would have been pretty cool seeing how score is a large focus here.
