Well that didn’t take long. Soon after rumors started to flood the internet about a new Counter-Strike game, Valve officially announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. CS: GO will feature new maps, characters, and weapons and will have updated versions of classic CS maps such as de_dust. You can also expect new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more. CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment and is expected to be released in early 2012. If you’re planning on being at PAX Prime or London Games Festival you will be able to play CS: GO there.
I’ve played CS for many, many moons and can tell you the gameplay is timeless. I have high hopes for this new installation since it appears they are just trying to bring some of the features into the modern age. I think they will do ok as long as they don’t change the gameplay too much. If they do, then they will have to deal with the CS community; and trust me, that can get ugly.
