WoW! Talk! #141: A Healthy Dose of Zzza'qul
OoCS hits a wall with Za'Qul and has feelings on it, doing M+, and a sprinkling of Classic. In the news, Classic gives free transfers, Recruit-a-Friend Soon™, and WoW Blades are selling like crazy....
Nick recently dug into his files and found, to his surprise, the long lost secret pilot episode of WoW! Talk!. Recorded in 2004, on the eve of the launch of World of Warcraft, this marks the first time Nick, Rei, Eric, and Harv got together to record a World of Warcraft podcast. If only Mash Those Buttons had existed at the time, then they could have had a place to share it.
Back in 2004, Nick and the gang decide to go over their gaming histories first. Rei talks about her experience playing on console and text-based multiplayer games like Gemstone 3. Eric was into FPS’s like Halo, and Harv had played the Atari 2600 and other consoles. Nick grew up with the Commodore 64 and most recently played the PS2 and MUD’s. Looking at World of Warcraft, Nick compares it to Diablo II, and points out that it even features the Druid class. Nick is excited for Tauren. Rei is looking forward to playing with people, and possibly leading a group.
Eric is planning to play with his Halo friends. Eric and Harv are both considering playing the Hunter class, which Nick is also excited for. The gang discusses possibly trying to run dungeons together, with three hunters and a healer. They complain that Alliance and Horde interactions will be limited, making it harder to cooperate. Nick points out that the Horde was evil in Warcraft II and maybe this is a continuation of that lineage. They discuss the system requirements for the game. They mention that it will come on four disks.
Harv compares WoW to GTA. In the beta, Rei and Harv saw naked people running around. Nick talks about how the exclamation mark as quest marker is a Diablo II holdover. Harv mentions encountering some fish people for the first time. The gang considers if the fifteen dollar per month subscription fee will prove limiting. Harv mentions not really seeing mounts in the beta. Nick laments that Tauren can only ride Kodos. He then discusses the name restrictions people can expect to face. Rei compares the game to a chat room, and then they attempt to compare the game to the Sims. Harv talks about visiting the elven capitol Darnassas, and then everyone talks about what animals they want to tame as hunters.
Finally, they share their expectations for how the game will do. Thank you for listening to this special, ancient episode of WoW! Talk! WoW! Talk! will return next week with a regular episode. Send any questions or thoughts to email@example.com or on twitter at @wowtalkmtb.
Host of WoW! Talk! and The Tauren & The Goblin. Sometimes known as the Video Games Public Defender. Wants to play more Destiny and Marvel Heroes but WoW is all-consuming. Decent F2P Hearthstone player. Sad that he lost the Wii that had Wrecking Crew on it. Would be happy if the only game ever made was M.U.L.E. Gragtharr on Skywall-US. Garresque on Ravencrest-US.
Rei is the 1 of the 5 SEELE members and the Ops Director at MTB. She enjoys anime, baking, cooking, gaming ( fighting, puzzle, rhythm, RPGs ), and spending WAY too much time working on spreadsheets. Current Games: Tales of Crestoria, WoW
Auto mechanic, car enthusiast, gamer, runner and almost never serious, Eric has been ditching responsibilities and gaming since age 7. His favorite genres are FPS and racing, although most of his game time is currently spent on WoW
Chris has been playing World of Warcraft since 2007. When he's not playing his hunter in Azeroth, he's probably playing one of his many alt hunters. If not doing that, he's probably playing a different hunter.
This week the lads discuss E3 Battlefield Elden Ring & BBQ's. Plus nerd out over new tracks from B4MV & Sleep Token.
This week Blizzards Jess Downey and Anthony Vitale join the crew to talk about the upcoming TBC Classic Arena tournament.
A spoiler-full overview on our favorite parts of the 5.55 relic and story!
